Chevrolet has announced a recall for its high-performance C8 Corvette Z06 and ZR1 models due to a fuel spill issue that could increase the risk of fire. The recall includes Corvette Z06 (2023–2025) and Corvette ZR1 vehicles (2025–2026), as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The problem centers around excess fuel spilling during refueling. In rare cases, the fuel spill issue can cause a leakage onto the left-side radiator. This creates the risk for ignition and fire. While malfunctioning gas station pumps may also lead to the issue, General Motors says customer safety remains its top priority.

“This is a rare occurrence, but we are taking immediate action,” a GM spokesperson said. “Our team is working on a fix to ensure every Corvette owner feels confident behind the wheel.”

Because of the fire risk, GM has also issued a stop-sale order on all affected Corvette Z06 and ZR1 models currently in dealer inventory. Until a permanent solution is in place, the company has decided to pause new sales of these cars. Early recall documents indicate GM plans to install a protective shield to redirect spilled fuel away from the radiator and other ignition sources.

Production numbers show that this recall will cover about 25,500 vehicles. This includes 16,000+ Corvette Z06 units (2023 and 2024) and an estimated 9,000 units for the 2025–2026 model years. Currently, only a few hundred Corvette ZR1s are on the road. This has kept the recall size relatively limited in comparison to mass-market vehicles.

Other models of Corvette are not affected by this recall. Owners of the Z06 and ZR1 will be contacted directly by GM with instructions once the repair program is finalized.
