After rumors of its demise Chevy gives the Blazer a last-minute lifeline

  • Chevy has officially announced that the gas-powered Blazer will continue in 2026, despite reports claiming it was being shut down.
  • The confusion came from GM’s plans to build EVs only at its Mexico factory, where the automaker has been currently building gas-powered Blazers.
  • Other SUVs like the Cadillac XT5 were also rumored to be ending; however, a GM spokesperson confirmed another model year for the Blazer and XT5.

Just when it seemed that the gas-powered Chevy Blazer was getting axed, Chevrolet surprised the automobile industry by announcing the Blazer will have the 2026 model year. Despite previous reports reporting the gas variant of the SUV was demising after 2025, it seems Blazer isn’t ready to halt its production yet.

Rumors of the Blazer’s exit came into the limelight when Chevrolet declared the production of all-electric Blazer EV and suggested they might be building fewer gas-powered models in the future. It was believed that the 2025 Blazer would be the last of its kind, particularly when GM stopped production at some of its factories to make space for more electric vehicles. Many people assumed the shift would halt the production of the traditional gas-powered Blazer.

However now, the automaker has changed its plan. It has officially been announced that the Blazer will stick around for at least another model year in 2026. The official details about the 2026 Chevy Blazer’s design or features haven’t been disclosed yet. However, the automobile experts claim that it’s likely to have most features of the 2025 version, which has got recent updates in styling and technology.

This move by the automaker could be a response to the demands of buyers. Not everyone intends to go all-electric, and SUVs like the Blazer have always been a popular choice for families and daily drivers. With this last-minute decision, Chevy has given its customers more time to adjust before going to all-electric options.
