Could the new Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 create history and become the fastest American car to ever finish a lap on the 12.9-mile Nürburgring track? The company has posted a video on its official Instagram. It hints that we will get its answer soon.

The video includes a yellow Corvette with a ZKT performance package. It is seen roaring down the Nürburgring track. When it enters a sharp left turn, it slows down and starts downshifting. The caption of the post, “Fast as green hell,” shows the incredible speed of the car.

It’s still not clear in the video whether the Corvette is the powerful 1064-hp ZR1 or the even stronger 1250-hp hybrid all-wheel ZR1X. It’s also possible that the automaker has tested multiple models, such as the ZR1, ZR1X, and Z06. It is because multiple versions were being lapped at the track. So far, it is worth mentioning that Chevy hasn’t disclosed any official lap times for the C7 and C8 Corvettes.

With this run, the Corvette aims to beat the Ford Mustang GTD’s record of 6:52.072. This is the fastest American production car on the Nürburgring as well as the 5th fastest production car worldwide. Below mentioned are the other high-performance cars (with Manthey Performance kit) ahead in the rankings:

  • Porsche 991 GT2 RS (6:43.300)
  • Mercedes-AMG Black Series (6:48.047)
  • Porsche 911 GT3 RS (6:49.328)

Currently, the Mercedes-AMG One holds the record for the fastest lap. It completed the lap in just 6 minutes and 29 seconds. There is another interesting thing to notice: Chevy dropped their teaser on June 28 — or 6/28. This might be a clue about their lap time, or it could be just a coincidence.
