We all have our favorites in the world of sports. And we all have the teams we dislike the most. In a clash between them, well, that’s what makes a rivalry great.

Many rivalries are driven by geography, others by politics. They can be interstate or intrastate. Any way you look at it, though, rivalries create their own special fire and legendary performances. Here are 30 current slugfests that we love the best:

#30. Grambling-Southern (College Football):

The series between these Louisiana schools began in 1932 and became known as the Bayou Classic in 1974. It is played the Saturday after Thanksgiving at the Superdome in New Orleans. The competition doesn’t stop at halftime – that’s when the Battle of the Bands (and both are great) captivates the fans.

#29. Denver Broncos-Oakland Raiders (NFL):

This one started to boil later than many others, as the Broncos didn’t even have a winning season in their 13 years of existence. When QB John Elway went to the Broncos in 1983 and they challenged the Raiders for primacy in the AFC West, the rivalry took off.
