Ferrari Planning a More Powerful Purosangue Super SUV

Because even 715 horsepower still leaves room for more excitement
When Ferrari first revealed the Ferrari Purosangue in 2022, many people were surprised. Ferrari had built its reputation on sleek two door sports cars, yet here was a four door SUV wearing the famous prancing horse badge. Still, the Purosangue quickly proved that it was not just another luxury SUV. It was a Ferrari through and through.
Now, reports suggest the Italian automaker may be preparing an even more powerful version of the Purosangue. If the rumors are true, Ferrari could soon introduce a performance focused variant that takes the already fast SUV to another level.
A V12 Engine That Already Delivers Serious Power
The current Purosangue is far from slow. Under the hood sits a naturally aspirated 6.5 liter V12 engine producing about 715 horsepower. That is enough power to push the large luxury SUV from 0 to 60 mph in just over three seconds.
For most vehicles, those numbers would already be more than enough. But Ferrari has never been a company that settles for ordinary performance. According to sources familiar with the company’s plans, the new version of the Purosangue will likely keep the same V12 engine.
It is not yet clear whether Ferrari will increase the horsepower. However, even if the power output stays similar, the SUV could still feel faster and more responsive thanks to other upgrades.
Sharper Handling Could Be the Real Focus
Instead of simply adding more horsepower, Ferrari may focus on improving the way the Purosangue drives. This could include changes to the suspension, chassis tuning, and weight reduction.
Ferrari has used this strategy before. Performance packages on models like the Ferrari SF90 Stradale and the Ferrari 296 GTB improve handling through lighter components and refined suspension setups. A similar approach could make the Purosangue feel more agile and sporty despite its larger size.
Drivers could see upgrades such as improved aerodynamics, lighter materials, and revised suspension settings. These changes would not just make the SUV faster in a straight line. They would make it more exciting to drive on winding roads as well.
Why the Purosangue Matters to Ferrari
The Purosangue plays a very important role in Ferrari’s lineup. It is the brand’s first production model with four doors and four full seats. That makes it far more practical than the company’s traditional sports cars.
Despite being an SUV, the Purosangue remains extremely exclusive. Prices start at around half a million dollars, and Ferrari carefully controls production numbers to protect its luxury image.
The model has also helped Ferrari attract new buyers who want both performance and everyday usability. In many ways, the Purosangue has expanded the brand’s reach without losing its identity.
A Smart Way to Refresh the Model
Launching a more powerful version would be a smart move for Ferrari. It would refresh the Purosangue while keeping the current design and platform. At the same time, it would give buyers another high end option within the lineup.
Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has already said the company plans to introduce several new vehicles in the coming years. These will include models with traditional engines, hybrids, and even fully electric technology.
For now, though, the Purosangue shows that there is still strong demand for high performance vehicles powered by classic internal combustion engines. And if Ferrari does release a sharper and more powerful version, it could easily become one of the most exciting luxury SUVs on the road.
