Is The iCar By Apple Going To Hit The Road Any Time Soon

The hint by Apple to delve into car manufacturing through the iCar project has been going on behind the scenes for some time now. The first hints were thrown around in 2015, when rumors of Apple wanting to have a piece of the space enjoyed by Tesla came around.

Down through the months. Apple has made clear moves to that direction. In May 2018,for instance it emerged that Apple was collaborating with Volkswagen to develop a driverless vehicle to shuttle its employees to and from work.

How far the project is or goes is still left out for speculation.
Perhaps the most important hint however was the arrest of an ex-Apple employee who was allegedly involved in stealing trade secrets from the company to take to a Chinese car startup.

In the view of this,what seems clear is that an iCar is in the pipeline. How soon it lands here is another story altogether.

Reports indicate that Apple had earlier assigned a 2020 date for the announcement but it has since been moved closer. It might take place in 2020.

In the meantime, an Apple Tv is also said to be in the offing, with some observers noting that this is even closer than a car since the company has a solid software/hardware background. When Apple CEO Tim Cook was interviewed in June 2017 on the subject of autonomous cars, he stayed off any commitments, yet still hinted of such a possibility.

He acknowledged that Apple is focusing on autonomous systems. Cook further added, “it’s a core technology that we view as very important. We sort of see it as the mother of all AI projects. It’s probably one of the most difficult AI projects to actually work on. We’ll see where it takes us. We’re not really saying from a product point of view what we will do.”
