Classic Jaguar XJ220 Surfaces on Bring a Trailer Auction Block

The Jaguar XJ220 isn’t an ordinary classic car; it’s one of the fastest and most fascinating supercars of the ’90s.
Back in its day, this British rocket had shocked everyone by hitting over 212 mph, making it the fastest production car around. Automobiles like the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 often steal the spotlight, but the XJ220 deserves to be right up there in the same league.
And now, one of these rare machines has popped up on Bring a Trailer. This example is a 1993 Jaguar XJ220 finished in a gorgeous Le Mans Blue. The backstory of this rocket makes it more appealing. The classic Jaguar XJ220 spent more than 10 years on display inside a Tokyo skyscraper before it headed to Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, it made an appearance on Jay Leno’s Garage. That’s not your everyday garage history.
Despite being 30+ years old, this XJ220 is completely original and has barely been driven. The odometer shows just around 5,000 miles. It also has an official heritage certification from Jaguar. For collectors, that’s about as close as you can get to finding a brand-new one today. Under the sleek body sits a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine that pumps out 542 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a five-speed manual and rear-wheel drive. This is the car that could outrun most rivals of its time. In the early ’90s, the Jaguar XJ220 was a serious monster.
The XJ220’s story also has some quirky twists. Jaguar teamed up with racing legends Tom Walkinshaw Racing to fine-tune the car. Their test mule was nothing less than a Ford Transit van stuffed with the XJ220’s twin-turbo V6. That oddball van (complete with a ladder on the roof) became a fan favorite at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. It stormed up the hill faster than anyone expected. Of course, the production XJ220 was far more refined with its sleek aluminum body, wide stance, and chunky Bridgestone tires that still look incredible today.
Inside, the soft-edged ’90s interior even came with luxuries such as a trunk-mounted CD player. This made this car far more road-friendly than the Ferrari F40 and easier to live with than many supercars of its time. With its mix of speed, rarity, and a backstory you won’t forget, this XJ220 is more than just a collector’s item. We can say that it’s a piece of automotive history. Whoever wins this auction is in for something truly special.
The auction will end on September 5.
