De Tomaso Has Been Dusted Off To Amuse Our Appetite

Unless you’ve been a thorough and true fan of automotive, the name DE Tomaso, may not ring a bell. The last car to come around bearing a name associated with this name was named the Guara and appeared way back in 2004.

Things have been awfully silent, but not anymore, it seems. This notwithstanding, De Tomaso was a name to reckon within the 1960s, with breathtaking and unconventional designs characterizing its era of reign.

The De Tomaso P72 revealed recently at the Goodwood Festival of Speed promises to revive not only the good old memories but also carry some great features from that ancestral era. One of its main characteristics is a manual transmission and just a slightly changed body design.

It is announced that the P72 is will be a limited GT with only 72 units being made. Prices are juicy, retailing at $846,000. The De Tomasos of the golden era were hardcore racers, but the P72 is made to be consumed thoughtfully with the modern comforts, speed as well as day to day usage.

Ultimately, this is a great comeback strategy that may accelerate the nameplate’s rise from oblivion. If pegged on the premise of history the attachment of racing greats Alejandro De Tomaso and Carroll Shelby to the brand will work to its benefit and we are itching to see how the market responds to this promising venture.
