This electric beast just went faster than a Bugatti, hitting 308 mph. The question is, can anything catch it now?

The electric car game just hit another level. BYD’s YangWang U9 Xtreme has set a new record by reaching a top speed of 308.4 mph. This new record makes the YangWang U9 Xtreme the fastest production car on the planet. Yes, you read that right. This is faster than the legendary Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+.

The record run happened at the ATP Papenburg track in Germany, with pro racer Marc Basseng behind the wheel. Watching the U9 Xtreme fly past Bugatti’s old mark of 304.8 mph from 2019 is proof that EVs aren’t just about going green. They also have the capability to go ridiculously fast.

So how did it pull this off? The U9 Xtreme packs a quad-motor setup pumping out nearly 3,000 horsepower. Instead of the usual 800-volt system, this monster runs on a 1,200-volt architecture that delivers more juice to the motors. Of course, more power means more heat. BYD fitted it with advanced high-density batteries and serious cooling upgrades.

They also made some clever tweaks to handle all that speed, such as swapping to 20-inch wheels, giving it wider semi-slick tires, and tightening the front track for better control.

The U9 Xtreme is officially a production car. However, BYD says they will only build 30 units worldwide. That makes it a rare unicorn in the world of hypercars.

From all this, one thing is sure: the YangWang U9 Xtreme has proved that the future of speed belongs to electric power. Bugatti might have to look over its shoulder, because this electric vehicle just claimed the crown.
