It is undeniable that the Volkswagen Beetle is one of the most popular cars to have graced the surface of the earth. Wherever you go, the Beetle comes across like an urban trademark that needs no introduction. Even to a novice, the Beetle is known by heart.

But all good things come to an end at last and it has now dawned that Volkswagen wants to wrap up Beetle’s production. Hinrich Woebcken, chief executive of Volkswagen Group of America, said in September that this move is motivated by market dynamics and the shifting of the company into a full-line, family-focused automaker in the US.

There is also the hand of the company’s “electrification strategy.” Sadly Woebcken notes, “there are no immediate plans to replace it.”

Enthusiasts, however, will still have a chance to buy the to final editions of the vehicle that will be available in both coupe and convertible models. Prices are ranged between $23,045 going upwards.

Wherever the Beetle is to be found, there is a story behind its inspiration. As Woebcken rightly pointed out, its exit will evoke a host of emotions.

Although he pointed out that there was no possibility of reviving it, he was quick not to close that chapter entirely. “Never say never,” he said, noting that they were still considering including some Beetle elements in the re-vamped Volkswagen Bus.
