This is what the BMW 328 has done. At a time when the average speed of a top-riding car was 103 mph, a BMW 328 successfully penned its historical journey at the infamous Mille Miglia circuit. The year was 1940. It became a legend and was listed as one of the 25 greatest cars of the century.
Such milestones cannot go unnoticed and in celebration of the 328’s 75th birthday, BMW put up a replica to pay admiration to this awesome gem. The replica car was dubbed the Hommage and was built on several engineering principles that found on the original car.
However, in line with modernity, it was to be an ultra-lightweight sports car weighing 1,720 pounds. Lots of carbon fiber effectively enhanced with plastic were the materials of choice.
In the era when the 328 was making history, BMW engineers use of aluminum and magnesium to keep the car’s weight in check. In exterior design, the characteristic BMW kidney grille shape almost juts off both the earlier car and the modern 328 Hommage.
Justice was done on this recreation and a good attempt to remember a car that was touted as one of the greatest sporting cars of the 1930s and 1940s. Its entire looks are exhilarating and nothing short of truly admirable.
