Please Give Way For The Monster: Toyota Land Speed Cruiser

If you haven’t seen the Toyota that does 2000 hp, then you haven’t encountered a monster car. It is correctly named the Toyota Land Speed Cruiser.

The Toyota Land Cruiser is generally a car whose task is fronted more as tackling rough terrains at low speeds. It could be equated to the Range Rover, a big SUV designed to do some gymnastics, especially with off-road handling.

Over the years, the Land Cruiser has grown from a spartan work vehicle into a bulky luxury SUV, again, not the first type of vehicle you think of when it comes to speed. That’s where this monstrous machine, the Land Speed Cruiser, comes in.

It draws its power from a 5.7-liter V8 used in the stock Land Cruiser, but with a pair of turbochargers the leading manufacturer describes as “volleyball-sized.” The massive turbos sit on either side of the engine, sucking in the air directly through inlets cut into the front fascia.

The result is 2,000 horsepower, meaning this Land Cruiser is about twice as powerful as a Bugatti Veyron and makes a Ferrari 488 GTB look like a Vespa. This is a vehicle capable of doing a whopping 230 mph, which is a full 19 mph faster than the previous record holder.

To retain it on its lane, the Land Speed Cruiser has been lowered substantially to improve aerodynamics, stability, and, most importantly, controllability at high speeds. Nothing much has been heard since this concept was brought around a couple of years ago but Toyota still makes massive machines of significant sizes.

That such power may just be found in some of them isn’t too bad a thing.
