This titanic pillbug of a vehicle may look like an oversized Monopoly piece, but it actually holds several automotive milestones.

It was the world’s very first production minivan, made all the way back in the 30s, it was one of the first cars to feature fiberglass in its shell’s construction, and it was one of the first cars to feature coil spring suspensions. It could be said that the Scarab was the progenitor for many modern luxury vehicles.

#7: 2001 BMW Gina Concept

If ever there was a car intended to be driven by superheroes, it’d be one made of spandex. BMW’s design director Chris Bangle flexed his creative muscles on the Gina, opting for a sheet of flexible, translucent spandex over the frame.

In addition to creating some cool stretchy visual effects when the doors are opened, the spandex granted the Gina greater resistance to extreme temperatures, its flexible nature allowing it to keep its form in almost any situation. It’s like Plastic Man, but without the weird goggles.
