Porsche May Build Its Next Hypercar on the Audi Nuvolari Platform

Porsche’s next hypercar may not need an entirely new platform to become reality.

A new report suggests that Porsche’s long-rumored successor to the 918 Spyder could be built using the Audi Nuvolari platform. Nothing has been confirmed by Porsche, but the idea lines up closely with comments the automaker’s leadership has already made this year.

A platform is the foundational structural architecture, including the chassis, suspension mounts, and core powertrain layout upon which high-performance, exotic vehicles are built.

The Nuvolari already shares its architecture with the Lamborghini Temerario, giving Volkswagen Group a proven mid-engine hybrid platform that multiple brands can use.

Building an entirely new hypercar from scratch would take years and require a large budget. Using existing Volkswagen Group hardware would let Porsche proceed faster and spend less to bring a new flagship model to market.

Porsche is expected to share more details about its future product plans in early October. That announcement should clarify whether this report holds up.

Why Porsche Needs a New Flagship

Porsche has not built a hypercar since the 918 Spyder went out of production more than a decade ago. Before that, the Carrera GT held the same role at the top of the lineup. Since the 918, no successor has taken its place.

Porsche did preview an all-electric hypercar concept called Mission X in 2023. However, weak customer interest reportedly led the company to set that project aside.

The renewed interest in a flagship model comes from new CEO Michael Leiters, who took over at the start of 2026. During Porsche’s annual press conference, Leiters said the company is evaluating ways to grow in higher-margin categories, including “models and derivatives both above our current two-door sports cars” and above the Cayenne SUV lineup.

What the Nuvolari Brings

The Audi Nuvolari was revealed in June 2026 as Audi’s first hypercar and the fastest production car the brand has ever built. If Porsche does base a new model on this platform, here is what it would be working with:

  • A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine built by Lamborghini, producing 800 PS on its own
  • A hybrid system with three electric motors that raises total output to 1,001 PS (987 hp)
  • A carbon-fiber body built using an evolved version of Audi’s Space Frame construction
  • A top speed above 350 km/h (217 mph)
  • A 0-100 km/h time of 2.6 seconds
  • Production limited to 499 units, with deliveries starting in 2027
  • A price above half a million pounds, roughly $650,000

Shared Platforms Are Already Common at Volkswagen Group

This would not be the first time Volkswagen Group brands have shared expensive sports car technology. The Nuvolari and Temerario already prove that a single platform can serve both Audi and Lamborghini.

Porsche is also expected to use Audi underpinnings elsewhere in its lineup. The next Macan successor is reportedly based on the current Audi Q5 platform, and a future three-row Porsche SUV is said to be closely related to the Audi Q9. A future electric 718 Boxster and Cayman are also expected to share their platform with a production version of the Audi Concept C.

What Happens Next

For now, this remains a report rather than a confirmed plan. Porsche has not commented directly on the Nuvolari connection. The company’s promised product roadmap update in early October should offer the clearest picture yet of what its next hypercar, if it happens, will actually be.
