Awesome Technology On The Peugeot 508
Peugeot Likes Bringing Surprises In Form Of Good Cars
Peugeot says with clarity that the refinement seen on the new Peugeot 508 is aimed at making its body “as stiff as possible.” Without much effort, this comes out clearly. It also speaks loudly about the company’s focus on creating outstanding hybrids. What exactly is this car like? Let’s get down to it.
One of the notable physical upgrades on the 508 is the frameless side windows which gives it a sassy sporty look. It is elegant and makes a bold of statement in terms of appeal.
With the 508 the hybrid option will use the 178 bhp PureTech petrol engine mated to an electric motor and 11.8 kWh battery for a total of 222 bhp. Peugeot promises both 49 g/km and up to 25 miles of zero-emission driving.
Compared to the previous-generation 508 sedan, the new liftback hatch 508 Fastback is 60 mm shorter in height, and measures 80 mm less in length, giving it a fancier and sportier look. It’s the latest of the Peugeot family to get the new design language that has so far featured on the 3008 and 5008.
If someone said that Peugeot’s head designer, Gilles Vidal, preserved his best work for the 508, they wouldn’t be far from the truth. It is on this element that some history of the Peugot is also preserved, with the 508 badge now proudly sitting on the bonnet, paying homage to one of the world’s most iconic cars from the automaker, the Peugeot 504 and the 504 coupe.
Peugeot continues with its i-Cockpit interior layout and display system that incorporates a small steering wheel with a 12.3-inch display and a 10-inch touchscreen. Peugeot says that the eight-speed it uses has a freewheeling mode available between 25 km/h (15 mph) and 130 km/h (80 mph) and it is said to improve overall efficiency by up to 3 percent.
Bearing in mind that Peugeot makes the most powerful 1.6-liter turbocharged four-pot in the world, it is easy to see how this one reaches all the way to 270 hp.
