For some people, it will take some time before accepting that Lamborghini can sell more SUVs that small, sporty and speedy roadsters. But that is exactly what happened in 2019.
Last year, Lamborghini sold a total of 8,205 cars. This means that the company trumped over its previous record by an incredible 43 percent, which translated to more than 22 sales per day worldwide. About 60% of these cars were in Lambo’s newest model, the Urus SUV.
But when you closely interrogate the Urus, you find a good reason why it is doing quite well in the financial sense. It is a nicely designed car with angular styling and packs a handsome 641-horsepower twin-turbo V-8, engine, but being a beast of a truck doesn’t always translate into being wall poster-worthy. That raging bull badge can only do so much to bring its former self to life again.
The next phase for Lamborghini is to continue building cars that can guarantee some success as the Urus has demonstrated. The goodwill of the people and a brand name that has triumphed over time are some of the assets that Lambo must use in its newfound mine ground.
The V-12 Aventador, which is also the company’s most expensive and powerful car sold out 1,104 units in 2019. Its close cousin V-10 Huracan recorded 2,139 units. It is the Urus that is shining a new light on Lambo and could provide a turning point on its fortunes.
