McLaren MP4-12C Was Just Good Enough For Youthful Escapades
A Nice Car For The Unsettled Young Blood
The McLaren MP4-12C falls in the class of cars that ushered the company into the modern era of a sports car. It is in fact, considered among the first modern McLaren road car.
Since the departure of the legendary F1, the MP4 becomes the company’s first street-legal production vehicle. Although it was discontinued in 2014, it left indelible footprints in the world of motoring.
The MP4-12C was build to posses a twin-turbo V8 engine that makes 592 horsepower. This would propel this car from 0-60 mph in just 3.2 seconds.
Its top speed tipped at 205 mph. With its spreading swing-up doors, twin air intakes set on either side and an active air-brake rear spoiler, there was no reason not to like this car.
Even with its outstanding features, the market has not favored it as much, dipping badly to below $100,000 mark. The MP4-12C features wear a lot of carbon fiber thus helping to keep weight in check. It is said to weigh just 3,200 lbs.
As such, this car is also enhanced with a hydraulic suspension, stepping away from the traditional sway bar. Given that McLaren does it all in-house, this car was fine enough to amuse fans for the period it did.
It doesn’t count among the greatest but surely managed to deliver something that youthful adrenaline could enjoy. Even with its exit, there are quite a number of lessons to learn from this car.
