Weekly News Highlights
Don’t forget your helmet, now.
What if there was a news outlet where all of the anchors were sock puppets? Like, it’s not a silly show, it’s the same old serious news, everything’s the same, except the people are sock puppets? Wouldn’t that be weirdly interesting? No? Fine, whatever, I know it’d be cool. Anyway, here’s some non-sock puppet news.
The annual tech, film, and music festival South by Southwest, or SXSW, has officially been cancelled this year due to coronavirus-related concerns. The event was originally supposed to be held between March 13 and March 22, but due to concerns about the virus held by the mayor of Austin, Texas, the event has been called off.
Originally, the event was planned to be held as scheduled, but after a petition made the rounds on Change.org to cancel it in the interest of everyone’s safety, the event organizers were forced to change their tune.
“We are devastated to share this news with you,” the organizers wrote on the SXSW website. ”‘The show must go on’ is in our DNA, and this is the first time in 34 years that the March event will not take place. We are now working through the ramifications of this unprecedented situation.”
