Achieving Dreams: Movie Replica Car That Cost Over $100k To Build
It’s not about the cost, but the fulfillment of a man’s dream
Movie cars have a fan base that is sometimes more fanatical than fans of the movie itself. This can be said of Dale Walter from Michigan who spent a deceiving $125,000 to rebuild a car from a movie he had watched 30 years earlier.
It all begun in the dark movie theatre when Dale turned up to watch one of George Miller’s Mad Max seminal movies. It was the famous Interceptor car and he turned to a friend and said: “Someday, I will own that car.”
In 2008, Dale’s journey to his dream started when he contacted Mad Max Cars, a specialist company to convert his 1972 Australian Ford Falcon into the iconic Interceptor. Five years later and several dollars spent, Dale had his car radiating so much energy and persona that he couldn’t help but be very proud of the investment.
“A lot of people ask me what inspired me to build the Mad Max Interceptor,” he says recounting the story of his attendance to the movie. He even sent their friend with whom he sat in the movie a picture of him next to the car when the project finally hit home.
He has no regret for any dime spent either. “We spent over $12,000 on the engine alone which was hand-built – so a lot of went into that. I was super meticulous about how I wanted the car to be.”
Welcome to the world of fanatical car builders!
