Comedian Jay Leno Built A Car That Runs On Bio-Diesel
For The Love Of Cars, Man Can Go Out of His Way
Celebrated comedian Jay Leno hosted tonight show between 1992 and 2009. Not only does he make jokes but he makes cars as well.
He is among fans who love cars from the bottom of the hear and invests just as much as in them. He built one and named it EcoJet.
Built-in conjunction with General Motors, the EcoJet, combines a sleek design with epic power while remaining environmentally friendly. It rides on renewable bio-diesel fuel and still manages to produce 650-horsepower using the Honeywell LTS-101 jet turbine engine.
From its looks and even by the builder’s own admission, the vehicle takes a cue from jet aircraft and Formula One racecars. Bernard Juchli, the chief mechanic and caretaker of Leno’s car collection made a revealing comment saying, “We thought we pushed the creative envelope with the ’66 twin turbo Toronado project with GM, but this turbine-powered monster is a whole new level of complexity.”
The vehicle’s powerful engine sits in a modified Corvette Z06 hydroformed aluminum frame with aluminum and magnesium structural and chassis components. The vehicle’s shell is an advanced construction of carbon fiber over Kevlar.
One of the most inspiring elements of design cars like this is that there is so much to be achieved just as there is much to be learned. The EcoJet no doubt epitomizes the comedian’s love for cars even has he continues with his deeply desirable collection of unique cars.
