Going back in time yet keeping up with modernity

The 2020 Morgan Plus Six is a bespoke retro-styled, two-door, two-seat roadster that reminds us of the 1950s and beyond. It was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show as a replacement for the Plus 8 which came sometime in 2012. Unique characteristics include a hard-top, new technology and a turbocharged engine.

The B58 engine is plucked from BMW and is meant to make 335 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Morgan says that this car will do 0-62 mph in just 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of 166 mph. It is a relatively light car with a curb weight of 2,370 pounds dry. Morgan has made use of the new CX-Generation chassis architecture which uses bonded aluminum to keep weight matters in check.

Although the interior is heavily refreshed with a new dash several lovely sets of gauges, it is still reminiscent of a Morgan. This is specifically represented by the sloping fenders that are way too common on Morgan cars.

Clearly, this Morgan shuts off impossibilities and chooses to focus on the possible. It is definitely a car to make heads turn especially with very few urban competitors. With the continued craze on retro-style and a whole new generation that is in love with vehicles of years gone by, this shouldn’t be a hard nut to crack.
