The Nissan Micra is a stylish small car that’s comfortable, quiet, and handles the road in a manner sensible style. For 2019 the chassis is carried over from previous versions and so are the engines, with three options currently available.

There’s a 1.0 71PS petrol, a 0.9 IG-T 90 petrol and a DCI 90 diesel. While the last Micra had a CVT auto gearbox, the current car only comes with a five-speed manual, with an automatic version set to be introduced at a later date.

All three engines deliver low emissions and claimed economy over 60 mpg, although you’ll need to look at the Micra’s rivals if you’re after punchy performance. The Micra is offered in five trims.

The flagship is Tekna, then there’s N-Connecta, Acenta, Visia+ and Visia. The DCI diesel is the only engine that can be had in all five trims, while the 1.0 petrol only comes in Visia, Visia + and Acenta trim.

All cars get Bluetooth as standard, as well as automatic emergency braking and a lane departure warning system. Air-con and stop-start tech feature on Visia+ cars, while alloy wheels, smartphone connectivity and a seven-inch touchscreen make an appearance on the mid-range Acenta and above.

Notably, the Micra will be fighting for space with the likes of C Ford Fiesta, SEAT Ibiza and Skoda Fabia as well as the Volkswagen Polo. Given the strength of these brands, it is prudent that the Micra puts more effort it its marketing strategy.
