Jaguar I-Pace Is Making Waves

The Jaguar I-Pace has won the 2019 European Car of the Year award at the Geneva Motor Show, marking the British automaker’s first trophy for the honor. The brand’s electric crossover actually tied with the Alpine A110 with each of them receiving 250 points.

The Jag earned the overall victory because more voters put it at the top of their list than the Alpine. The Kia Ceed and Ford Focus took third and fourth place with 247 and 235 points, respectively.

But the I-Pace quite deserved this win despite being Jaguar’s first pure-electric model. It is a car that equally sets sets a new standard for luxury electric vehicles.

With two electric motors and all-wheel drive, it provides punchy acceleration and thrilling handling and has an interesting thing that happens as you force the pedal downwards. During acceleration, the I-Pace’s speakers whir and warble with artificial noise, increasing in pitch as speed builds.

You can turn off this effect and make the I-Pace the model of tranquility and serenity. The I-Pace will be initially availed solely in EV400 spec.

In this configuration, two identical electric motors—one to power each axle—give the I-Pace all-wheel drive and the easy speed that comes from 394 horsepower and 512 lb-ft of torque. Squeezing the accelerator whisks the I-Pace forward with alacrity; we expect the Jag to reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

This is agreeably a vehicle that resounds luxury and works to take things to a higher level altogether.
