Going Bonkers With Ariel Atom 500 V8

This Car Offers A Unique Look With Speed To Match

When some men go out there test their machismo, they dedicate their mind to their actions with a fault. That’s why someone can build a car that weighs 550kg (1,212 lb) that pulls 500bhp and sprints from 0-60 in a mere 2.3 secs. That’s the Atom V8 500 for you!

It is so amusing that even the bosses at Ariel almost never believed they would able to do this, let alone being allowed to have it on the road. Ariel boss Simon Saunders says, “In 10 years time you might not be able to do this sort of thing anymore.” One of the specific element that sets the Atom apart is its power to weight ratio (900bhp per ton), which is incredible.

American engine maker Hartley developed Ariel’s 3.0 liter, 32-valve V8 engine back in 2010. It was paired to a hydraulically activated Sadev gearbox that hits six-speed with extremely quick flat up-shifts and cuts shift times ranging to 40 milliseconds.

Several years down, a number of things have changed on the Atom, including a recent inclination towards Honda engines. Using a Honda Type R engine that carries 2.0-liter inline-four cylinder that is turbocharged, the modern Ariel Atom adds 10 horses up.

This is a race track car that has to gain as much energy and practicality as possible. The designers have kept it equally simplistic ensuring that it still manages to be gainful in sales.
