#25: “Harlots” (Season 3) Hulu

This Hulu hit just premiered it’s the third season and follows women working in English brothels during the 18th century, including the cunning women who run them.

  • In the opening scene, one of the girls is reading from a book called “Harris’s List” which is an actual book that exists detailing the talents of London’s harlots.
  • This show is predominantly produced and written by women, the show was also inspired by a French TV-show called “Maison Close” (2010).

    The third season of this Hulu hit has only left fans wanting more for Season 4. The series is based on a religion-based futuristic society in which the childbirth rate plummets and fertile women are grouped together to bear children for high government officials.

  • The Hulu series is based on the book “The Handmaid’s Tale” by Margaret Atwood and she makes a cameo in the first episode as the character who slaps Offerd when she doesn’t want to join the shaming circle.
  • Atwood said that she was greatly inspired by George Orwell’s dystopian novel, “1984.”
