The SsangYong Rexton SUV Is All Grown And Ready To Roll
The Newly Developed SsangYong Rexton
The Rexton is the company’s flagship large SUV and is making a comeback as part of SsangYong’s campaign to renew and claim a share of the growing SUV demand. It has come with refreshed vigor and a seemingly sharp attempt to turn things around.
The new Rexton is testimony to this approach. In this new car, Ssangyong has kept things nice and simple, offering just one engine and a pair of gearboxes. The powerplant is a 2.2-liter four-cylinder.
The kit and tech too have almost nothing in common with predecessor’s. Base cars come fairly equipped, but the Ultimate model is packed all the way to the top with a 9.2-inch touchscreen sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, quilted leather, heated and cooled memory seats, and even an around-view camera.
Additional, we find a full suite of active and autonomous safety tech – features that were unheard of in the SsangYong line-up only a couple of years ago. As a result, the Rexton is no longer the bargain buy it once was, with the Ultimate version attracting quite a handsome of your bank notes.
The new 2.2-liter diesel delivers 179 bhp and 420 Nm of torque, enough to give the Rexton acceptable performance and surprising refinement, too. The six-speed manual option may well be favored by users with off-road liking.
Quite plausibly it will pick from 0-62 mph in 11.9 seconds, and go on to a top speed of 115 mph. This is a true refinement of a brand and it now stands with some extravaganza as found in other cars by the company.
Luckily, it has also come at the right time as the SUV class grows and glows.
