The 2027 BMW iX3 is here with 434 miles of range at a surprisingly affordable $62,850 price tag.

BMW opened preorders for the all-new 2027 iX3 50 xDrive in the US on May 6, 2026, and the automotive world did a double-take. The base Sport trim starts at $61,500, with a $1,350 destination fee bringing the all-in starting price to $62,850. For context, that is the price of a car that just happens to be one of the longest-range electric SUVs you can buy right now.

You can lock yours in today with a $1,000 deposit. First deliveries are scheduled to begin on September 25, 2026.

The iX3 comes in three trims:

  • Sport at $61,500
  • M Sport at $64,000
  • M Sport Professional at $65,500

Each step up adds a sportier design and more features. If you go fully loaded with every option, the 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive tops out at $85,845.

This car isn’t just cheap for an electric SUV. The 463-hp all-wheel-drive iX3 50 is actually $5,000 less than the gas-powered X3 M50, which only makes 393 hp from a 3.0-liter inline-six. It’s an electric car, beating a gas car on price, while also making more power.

Power comes from two motors producing 463 horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque, launching it from 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. For reference, that’s quicker than most sports cars from a decade ago.

The iX3 also challenges the 2026 Genesis Electrified GV70 at $64,380, the Porsche Macan Electric at $80,300, the Audi Q6 e-tron at $63,800, and the Rivian R1S at $76,990. The Porsche Macan EV, which starts $18,000 higher, is one of the most talked-about rivals in this segment. The iX3 embarrasses it in value.

The 2027 iX3 is not just a new model. It is BMW’s first-ever Neue Klasse production vehicle — the first car from BMW’s next-generation platform, which the company says will redefine its entire lineup.

You won’t have range anxiety with this vehicle. To get the maximum 434 miles of range, the company recommends using 20-inch summer tires (a no-cost option). The standard 20-inch all-season tires get you 393 miles, and if you step up to 21-inch wheels, you will get 398-399 miles. No matter how you spec it, you’re getting well over 380 miles. That’s a lot.

Range is only part of the story. How fast you can recharge the battery is equally important. The 2027 iX3 uses an 800-volt architecture with up to 400 kW DC fast charging, taking the battery from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes. It means with the compatible charger, you can add up to 185 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Built on sixth-generation eDrive technology with advanced cylindrical battery cells, this car has a total battery capacity of 112.3 kWh. It uses a NACS charging port, meaning you can plug in directly to Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. The battery carries an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty.

Inside the car, BMW banishes the traditional gauge cluster entirely. The company has moved all critical instrumentation to what it calls Panoramic iDrive—a thin display band spanning the full width of the cabin at the base of the windshield.

The main infotainment display is a floating 17.9-inch touchscreen on the dashboard, running BMW’s latest operating system.

Standard kit includes ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, active blind-spot detection, lane-keep assist, forward collision mitigation, and adaptive cruise control. That’s a solid list for a base trim. It also comes standard with bidirectional charging so that you can power devices or even your home from the car.

Should You Preorder?

After opening orders in Europe in September 2025, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse said the iX3 secured over 50,000 orders in just six months, indicating there is a strong appetite for it.

If you’re in the market for a premium electric SUV, you should at least take a serious look. Over 380 miles of range in the worst-case wheel setup, 400 kW fast charging, 463 horsepower, and a starting price that beats every major German rival by thousands of dollars, this is an overall excellent package.

The $1,000 deposit is fully refundable if you change your mind. So there’s very little reason not to configure one today and see if it works for you.
