BMW Reveals Electric M3 Concept With 1,000bhp

BMW just revealed the electric M3 Concept, and confirmed the petrol one isn’t dying either.
Recently, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2026, BMW pulled the cover off the M Concept Neue Klasse. This is BMW’s clearest preview yet of the all-electric M3, which is due to arrive in 2027. BMW parked it right next to an E30 M3 for the photos. That was a deliberate move. The E30 is 40 years old. The message was pretty obvious.

The M Concept Neue Klasse has four electric motors, one per wheel. The battery is over 100 kWh and built with M-specific cylindrical cells designed to withstand fast charging and high power output.
The whole electric system runs on an 800-volt architecture. BMW’s new “Heart of Joy” computer controls the motors individually, sending torque to each wheel. The front axle can even be fully decoupled, so the car runs purely on rear-wheel drive if you want.
BMW has not officially confirmed an output figure yet. Reports from multiple sources suggest the production car will land somewhere between 800 and 1,000 horsepower. BMW itself has previously referenced a theoretical peak of 1,341bhp from this quad-motor layout, though that number has not been attached to the production car.
The M3 Concept sits on the same Neue Klasse platform as the new i3 sedan, which arrives later in 2026. But the M version is wider, lower, and much more aggressive. It has flared wheel arches, a shark-nose design that blends the grille and headlights into a single unit, a ducktail spoiler at the rear, and center-lock wheels.
The yellow daytime running lights are confirmed as a permanent feature across all future BMW M road cars. The roof and sill panels are made from natural flax fiber, which BMW says produces 40% less CO2 during manufacturing than carbon fiber.
Oliver Heilmer, Head of Design at BMW Compact Class, Neue Klasse, and BMW M, put it this way:
“With the new design language for BMW M automobiles, we are presenting the most expressive interpretation of Neue Klasse design. Genuine aerodynamics and functional design that is more than aesthetics — it is the soul of the vehicle, making performance palpable even at a standstill.”

Now, let’s go to the part that a lot of people will love.
The petrol M3 is not dead. A petrol-powered M3 variant and a Touring estate version are both confirmed to continue alongside the electric model. The petrol M3 will use a six-cylinder engine with mild-hybrid assistance, not a plug-in system. Output is expected to be marginally higher than the current M3 Competition’s 523bhp. So buyers get a choice: an electric with extreme power or a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine.
The electric M3, internally coded ZA0, is confirmed for a 2027 market introduction. The standard Neue Klasse 3 Series arrives later in 2026, with the next-generation M3 expected to be revealed in 2027 before going on sale in 2028.
One more thing, on the same weekend BMW showed this concept, Dries Vanthoor put the No. 15 BMW M Hybrid V8 on BMW M Motorsport’s first-ever Le Mans pole—good timing for a brand trying to make a statement.
