Mercedes-AMG Unveils Electric GT SUV With Up to 1,153 HP

Mercedes-AMG has revealed its first fully in-house electric SUV, with the top version offering up to 1,153 horsepower and 710 kW of fast charging.
Mercedes-AMG uncovered the new GT SUV on October 17, 2026. It is AMG’s first full-size SUV developed entirely in-house in its 59-year history and the second model built on the company’s electric AMG.EA architecture, after the GT 4-Door Coupe. Stefan Weckbach, chairman of Mercedes-AMG, summed up the car with the slogan “SUV by shape. GT by nature.”

The SUV will be available in three configurations: the GT 63, GT 55, and GT 53. The GT 63 and GT 55 come with three axial-flux motors, while the GT 53 uses two synchronous motors. The power figures are as follows:
- GT 63: up to 1,153 hp (860 kW) and 1,475 lb-ft (2,000 Nm) of torque
- GT 55: up to 805 hp (600 kW) and 1,372 lb-ft of torque
- GT 53: 536 hp (400 kW) and 590 lb-ft of torque
Mercedes-AMG claims the GT 63 can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds. These numbers use a one-foot rollout, which means the first 30.48 cm of movement is not counted. Without this, 0–60 mph takes an estimated 2.6 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 168 mph. In Europe, reaching 270 km/h requires the optional Driver’s Package.
Peak output is also not available continuously. The GT 63 and GT 55 can sustain 711 hp, while the GT 53 provides up to 362 hp of continuous power.
The GT 63 and GT 55 use a 128 kWh usable-capacity battery, while the GT 53 has a 106 kWh battery. All three variants operate on an 800-volt electrical architecture.
With the larger battery, Mercedes says the GT 63 and GT 55 can support DC fast charging at up to 710 kW. That adds up to 454 km of WLTP range in 10 minutes and charges the battery from 10 to 80% in 12 minutes. The GT 53 supports charging at up to 600 kW and can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 11 minutes under the manufacturer’s stated conditions. At a 400 kW charging station, the corresponding charging times are 16 minutes for the GT 63 and GT 55 and 14 minutes for the GT 53.
All three variants support five charging standards, including NACS in North America, CCS2 in Europe, GB/T in China, CHAdeMO in Japan, and CCS1 in South Korea.
According to Mercedes’ preliminary WLTP figures, the GT 63 and GT 55 offer a combined driving range of 620–700 km, while the GT 53 is rated for 597–668 km. The vehicle can charge at up to 710 kW at compatible 800-volt stations and automatically switches to 400-volt mode at 400-volt stations. However, Mercedes cautions that these figures are preliminary and have not yet been confirmed by an officially recognized testing organization.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 has a new AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ suspension as standard, while it is optional on the GT 55. It also uses active hydraulic elements instead of mechanical anti-roll bars to control body pitch and roll. Rear-axle steering, which turns the rear wheels up to 6 degrees, is standard across all variants. The GT 63 also comes standard with carbon-ceramic brakes, while the GT 55 offers them as an option.
The SUV has no combustion engine. Instead, its AMGFORCE Sport+ mode reproduces the sound of an AMG V8 in the GT 63 and GT 55 and of an AMG six-cylinder in the GT 53. It also simulates gear changes and adds seat vibration.
Inside, the driver sits low in front of a 14-inch multimedia display and a 10.2-inch driver display. An optional 14-inch passenger display is also available. The SUV seats five, with room for three passengers in the rear. The trunk can hold 21.4 cubic feet, with another 2.8 cubic feet under the front hood. Depending on the variant, the vehicle’s curb weight ranges from 2,525 kg to 2,715 kg.
Mercedes-Benz will assemble the GT SUV at its Sindelfingen plant in Germany, where the company has adapted a dedicated assembly hall for the AMG.EA platform.
In Germany, orders for the GT 53 are scheduled to open on October 20, 2026, with prices starting at €113,050, including 19% VAT. The GT 63 and GT 55 are scheduled to follow in spring 2027, and their German prices have not yet been announced. Mercedes-Benz USA says the 2028 model-year GT SUV will arrive at US dealerships in summer 2027. US pricing has not yet been announced.
