An Extraordinary Track Car From The Dutch Is Here

If for any reason Donkervoort sounds Dutch to you, you are absolutely right, it is. Based in the city of Lelystad right in the Netherlands, Donkervoort Automobielen BV has been making cars since 1978.

But they are keen on building ultra-lightweight sports cars with amazing high performance. The Donkervoort D8 GT is right from this family of cars.

In 2019, two monumental things were taking place in this track-focused car builder. Company founder Joop Donkervoort is turning 70 and the car has great stuff for this noble celebration.

At the same time, the company has continued its 40th-anniversary celebrations. At the very top of this car, they’ve named the D8 GTO or the JD70.

The JD initials, of course, stand for Joop Donkervoort. There is not as much information available on it at the moment but going by what we’ve previously witnessed from this carmaker, it may be based heavily on the D8 GTO-40.

On its part, the D8 GTO-40 was developed in conjunction with the R&D department of renowned steel producer Tata Steel. One of the things that have close consideration is weight, with the vehicle shedding quite a good amount of it.

Carrying an Audi-sourced engine, this car manages an output that is above 380 horsepower from a 2.5L R5 TFSI engine. If you called a street rocket, you wouldn’t be far from it. It weighs around 1,500 pounds.

This particular track car is nothing but an awesome piece of craft and engineering works done to the last bits passionately. It puts the Dutch on the map once again.
