From BMW’s perspective, this car is the ultimate representative of how cars will be shaped, manufactured, and used in the coming days. The Light Visionary Model (LVM) is the epitome manifestation of this idea, characterized by innovative, creative and purely stunning approaches with an aim of making the philosophy a reality.

According to BMW, this concept embodies true creative freedom, with designers and engineers left to their own devices. It has an outrageous fabric “skin” built out of a wire-mesh inner stabilizing layer and water/temperature-resistant outer layer. Think about that.

Completely shedding off conventional approaches, this car has just four outer elements instead of the combination of body panels. One panel covers the entire front end and extends to the rear edge of the doors. Then there are two rea-quarter coverings and finally the rear deck.

Of course, this is a concept for this and the next generation and as such it carries a lot of elements that are unique. The headlamps, for instance, are hidden until the driver turns them on. Yet, once they reveal from under the skin, you realize it is BMW’s traditional round lights.

That the next couple of years spells a revolution for the automotive industry is not in doubt. What will be breathtaking though is the extent to which carmakers will go, just to separate boys from men?
