A sportier compact SUV names the Corsair

The end of a thing predictably marks the beginning of another. Lincoln has confirmed that a new compact SUV named the Corsair will be replacing the MKC.

The new car is set to fill in the shoes of its predecessors the full-size Navigator and the mid-size Aviator and Nautilus SUVs. In effect, as far as the brand names go, the MKZ and MKT will be the only cars by the automaker bearing the MK-naming culture.

What will the new car look like?

Details are still scanty but there is enough speculation on what is to be expected. First, it is rumored that this car will be a plug-in-hybrid following in the footsteps of the Aviator the bigger brother. It may also carry MKC’s turbocharged 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter inline-four engines.

Whichever way you look at it, the Corsair is a rather ambitious car planning to take on competitors such as the Audi Q5, the BMW X3, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC-class. Exterior styling has also been given considerable careful thought on this car.

While smaller dimensions are the most obvious difference, the Corsair also has stubbier proportions, sleek LED headlamps, simpler lower frontal styling and evolution of the clam-shell tailgate that debuted on the MKC. Its tapered roofline helps exude a sportier appearance compared to its bigger sibling too.
