A Face Lift On Opel Astra Will Change The Market For The German Car

It Has The Potential To Do Better, The Facelift Will Determine It All

In 2017, Opel Astra recorded a – 14 percent drop in performance for its European market attributed partly to sharp competition from the Ford Focus. The German automaker is keen on rewriting this trend and one of the ways of doing this is by face-lifting the Astra in a number of ways.

Specs are still a hidden secret but we definitely expect an invigorated engine from the PSA stable having moved from General Motors. Currently, Astra’s most powerful engine is a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-4 with 200 horsepower.

At least there is a confirmation that Opel is working on redesigned versions for the Corsa subcompact hatch and Mokka X compact crossover. This raises hopes that the Astra will also get a face-lift accordingly.

At the same time, this is is a season for more tech enhancement and Opel would do justice if it allowed the Astra to wear some of the available advancements. Remember though that when it came around in 2015, the Astra was among the most advanced in its class.

We expect to see more input on the infotainment system as well as sharper focus on safety features. Astra is in a position where it can rewrite its story to stand out in and make positive strides going forward. It all depends on what the upgraded version brings around.
