The Race To Electrification Is In Itself… Electrifying!

So much is happening in the auto business and one thing has been made rather clear: it is only a matter of time before fossil-powered vehicles make an exit. Their time is slowly but surely fading.

Volvo has been teasing us with a revolutionary, high-performance coupe since 2013 when it introduced the Concept Coupe at the Frankfurt Auto Show. The design and foundation elements seem to have finally seen light of day.

There is also an fancy twist to this whole development; this is set to become Polestar’s first-ever standalone model and the first pre-production prototypes have started testing in real-world conditions. In December 2018, the coupe was out again for another round of performance and verification testing, with a focus on handling traits.

Joakim Rydholm, Polestar’s chief test driver said, “This is a GT that needs to be easy to drive and comfortable in everyday use.” This GT will produce 600-horsepower from a plug-in hybrid powertrain made up of a gasoline engine that primarily functions as a range extender, a lithium-ion battery pack, and at least two electric motors.

It has also been indicated that the coupe has a range of a little under 100 miles on electric power alone. All the same, the actual and final performance numbers are under wraps and we expect much more to flow along in coming days.
