Banned For Being Too Fast: Mosler MT900

Mosler Cars Looks Epic And Performs Like A Superstar

The story of car Maerswho come and go is not uncommon. History teaches us that from time to time, companies come, seem to do well and then fade into thin air never to be heard of. This is the story of Mosler Automotive, a company founded in 1985 and had all its eyes on super cars.

When the company was alive and kicking, it made headlines with vehicles produced mainly on limited edition. Fund manager Warren Mosler founded Consulier Industries whose first cars went by the name Consulier GTP.

It had a mid-mounted turbocharged Chrysler four-banger and a curb weight of roughly 2,000 pounds. The GTP was quite successful in competition. It was however banned by the International Motorsports Association(IMSA).

In the 1990s, the manufacturer, by this time renamed Mosler Automotive went on produced cars such as the Intruder and the Raptor. But it was not until the year 2001 that the vehicle made one of its most iconic cars dubbed as the MT900.

It bore a carbon-fiber chassis with a mid-mounted 5.7-liter LS1 V-8, which produced 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The car weighed 2,590 pounds, which was significantly higher than the original target, but it still managed to hit 60 mph in three-seconds.

One of the things highlighted as a major contributor of the bans Mosler got was that it was too fast. This notwithstanding, this was an efficiently crafted masterpiece that incorporated a lot of beautiful exterior and interior features.
