Mazda MX-30 EV: The First Production EV From Mazda

As the race to electrification intensifies, Mazda has thrown in its weight with the production of the Mazda MX-30. It brings forth an electric motor doing 143 horsepower (106 kilowatts) and a small 35.5-kWh battery that will cruise for about 130 miles (209 kilometers) between charges.

The battery size of this Mazda took enthusiasts by surprise, but Mazda was quick to justify its existence. According to the automaker, the MX-30N has a focus on enjoyable driving while affirming the relationship between people and cars.

Executives at Mazda explain that the MX-30 is closer to a diesel-powered Mazda3 hatchback in terms of its total CO2 emissions. This is what makes the small battery-package quite sensible.

Mazda also claims that the battery may need a replacement after doing approximately 100,000 miles (160,000 kilometers), yet its total CO2 emissions will remain similar to a diesel Mazda3.

This car does a steamy sporty look with a long hood that looks rather conventional. Even as EVs try hard to break new ground and remain different, a sharp focus shifts to their overall impact on the environment which is the main idea behind them anyway.

The Mazda MX-30 joins a growing class yet promises to be unique in its own rights. It’s too early to verify Mazda’s claims but there is a possibility that things are working in the preferred direction.
