Mercedes-AMG Missed 2019 Target But Is Planning For Arrival In 2021

The company invited 275 to explain this delay

The Mercedes-AMG supercar has been hotly on the lips of car enthusiasts. Hearty anticipation has characterized the long wait. Unfortunately, even the promised 2019 deadline isn’t any longer tenable and the marque now says this car will come around in 2021.

It might seem that this delay is for better and what fans will finally get is a thoroughly enhanced car, far beyond expectations. Making the announcement, company global head of sales Michael Knöller said, “Project One is the highest priority for us at AMG. We have reached the tipping point, and now we are back on track.”

Apparently, the delay could have been caused by the process of enhancing the car’s electric powertrain and making it street legal. It has been heralded as having a “very complicated exhaust system” and lower emissions, all of which might have kept the engineers busy, trying to figure out the best way around.

It also promises to be an extraordinarily fast car, riding from 0-to-124 mph in less than six seconds. The top speed is currently tipped at 217 mph. Even if it wasn’t a hybrid, such figures make any driver get jittery, especially considering that this is supposed to be a road-legal machine.

Customer loyalty is key and delaying projects may mean a whole of interpretations. With this in mind, AMG invited all of the 275 customers who pre-ordered the vehicle to Germany, just to explain what the status was and how the marque plans to overcome the impending challenges.
