Saying Goodbye To Beauty Stigmas

There’s a stigma in the modern world (and when I say “the modern world,” I mean the last fifty years or so) against women who wear a lot of makeup, work on cars, work in general and so much more. The belief as far as makeup goes is that they’re only wearing their makeup to attract attention to themselves or to fish for compliments. Some say that women who wear a lot of makeup only do so to hide a boring personality.

Okay, first of all, rude. Like, wow.

Secondly, the meaning of makeup, both personally and socially, is different for everyone. For some folks, yeah, it’s to accentuate one’s features a bit, but who doesn’t like to stand out a little from time to time? Don’t make assumptions of someone’s personality. For others, though, makeup is a form of artistry and self-expression. Makeup is the paint, and the face is the canvas.

When celebrities show up on camera without their makeup on, you always get a lot of comments about how good/bad they look without/with makeup. There’s usually a few comments talking about “the natural look” and how much better it is than wearing makeup. The thing is, though, the natural look doesn’t work for everyone, just like lots of makeup doesn’t work for everyone. If someone wants to put on makeup to achieve a look that they’re personally happy with, then what’s the harm?
