Before Czechoslovakia became the Czech Republic, some very nice cars were produced down there. Of course, this has been carried on to this day and the some epic Skoda models are a testament to this.

But out of the Czech Republic came one very peculiar car that would be hard to forge. It was named the Tatra 603.
This car has several historical elements to it but one of them is that it became the Republic’s first passenger car after World War II.

In addition, this car built between 1856 and 1875 bore the architecture of a generation of cars that had existed in the 50s. The design, heavily borrowed from America featured whale-like lines that made it almost slippery.

The engineering is what made all the difference as it carried a rear engine that was air-cooled. It became one of the most sought after car by whoever could afford one. Comfort was a great component in the vehicles matrix.

But this is a car that came at a time when manufacturers were directed by the central government on what to build and obliged without a fault. In the In Czechoslovakia, Tatra was directed to strictly build trucks, and Skoda was relegated to building passenger cars.

But this wouldn’t last long enough as some Tetra engineers found it too constricting. In revolt, they secretly developed their very radical and advanced rear-engine car designs. It led to the Tatra to build the likes of T87s and eventually the distinctive Tatra 603 was born.
