Every season in life has its exciting highs and lows. Some are eternally memorable while others fade away as soon as the rain stops dropping.

The 1970s down to the 80s and was nonetheless entertaining all round for car enthusiasts. It was a season for some epic competition. This was the time when Ford was an unrivaled competitor in rally championships.

It so happened that the Ford RS200 entered the Guinness Book as the world’s fastest accelerating and held that position for an enviably long time of 12 years. That particular Evolution driven by Stig Blomqvist sprinted form 0-62mph (100kph).

Back then, this was no mean achievement. Even then, the Evolution would still make history because only 24 of them were made, although in total more than RS200s were made.

The turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine produced up to 600 hp. It was paired to five-speed manual gearbox transmission. It also did front and rear independent double wishbone suspension as well as four-wheel ventilated disc brakes.

For a car that was auctioning between $475,000 – $675,000 in 2016, it is a clear demonstration that good traits can be passed over and over retained for a long period of time. This car had the looks and the ability to beat its competitors with the swiftness of an eagle and it is no wonder then that for a long time it held the lead position in racing.
