The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce Makes Alfa Romeos More Affordable

Now More People Can Get Behind The Wheel Of An Alfa Romeo

The Giulietta hatch is the last of the ‘old’ Alfa but remains the most affordable ticket into the historic brand having launched in 2011. Retailing at $29,990 for the base-model Super with a six-speed manual transmission, it remains significantly cheaper than entry-level variants of the Audi A3, Mercedes-Benz A-Class and BMW 1-Series it is positioned against.

That base-spec Super, is powered by a 110 kW/250 Nm 1.4-liter turbo four-cylinder and comes with standard equipment, such as 16-inch alloy wheels, cloth seat trim and a 5.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity. It also comes with cruise control and dual-zone air con.

The Giulietta Veloce is Alfa’s hot hatch. Powered by a 1750 cc turbo four cylinder that produces 177 kW and 340 Nm, it is exclusively offered with the dual-clutch transmission and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds – about as quick as a Volkswagen Golf GTI.

Beyond the go-fast bits, it features upgraded Brembo brakes, sports-tuned suspension, a more aggressive body kit with racey red highlights and a throatier exhaust system while the cabin gets sports seats trimmed in leather and Alcantara, a black headliner, and carbon fiber dash highlights.

You will also get basic standards equipment across various trims including six airbags, anti-skid brakes, stability control, and tire pressure monitoring. However, the lack of autonomous emergency braking, active cruise control, collision warnings or lane keeping assistance – systems that are now common in mainstream hatches makes the Giulietta a little more wanting at this point.
