The New BMW 8 Series Convertible
Made With Finesse: This Is The BMW 8 Series Convertible
BMW has given the BMW 8 Series a new lease of life by dusting off the shelves the iconic nameplate produced from 1990 to 1999. The most conspicuous addition will of course be the the convertible version meant to compliment the drop-top variant of the luxurious Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.
It is a vehicle meant for luxury just as it is for road abilities. Carrying a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 producing 523 horsepower (390 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters).
An eight-speed automatic will deliver the power to both axles, when need be. This magnificent creation hits 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 3.8 seconds.
The hardtop version hits 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.7 seconds. Both models have an electronically limited top speed of 155 miles per hour (250 kilometers per hour).
European buyers will also have the choice of the 840d xDrive. It’ll use a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline six turbo-diesel producing 315 hp (235 kW) and 502 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque. An eight-speed automatic will handle the gear changes.
BMW seems to have had a good reason why it shelved this car for nearly two decades, and this is evident from the face lift we see. From the front, the typical BMW grille design is present.
Below this is a large front splitter, while to the sides, there are angular headlight housings. Inside the housings, you will find geometric lighting signatures, plus high-intensity LED lighting elements that come as standard. Laser lighting elements are optional, while adaptive lighting components add an extra tech component.
Behind the wheel, lies a set of digital gauges, with the screen behind the dash measuring 12.3 inches. There’s also a 10.25-inch digital infotainment screen mounted high on the center console.
Tech is also loaded in plenty on the 8 Series Convertible for both added safety and greater convenience. We are talking of elements such as as parking assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, steering assist, blind spot monitors among others.
Being a flagship creation, it looks great and ready to impress. We have high hopes with this fine looking machine.
