A Huge Ambition: One Ride At A Time

Cab hailing company Uber has come a long way, literary. It has fought several battles, winning some and losing others, but it has kept an optimistic mindset and a sharp focus on its future. The company is a huge proponent of autonomous cars, has made several experiments to this end and is always revitalizing with new ways to enhance its business.

In a recent press briefing in London,CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said that their target is to have 20,000 cars on its app in London to be fully electric by the end of 2021, a number that is expected to rise so that all Uber cars are electric powered by 2025. Of course, this is an ambitious plan that must be backed up by solid investment. The CEO says that beginning early 2019, Uber customers will pay an extra 15p in a plan that will see Uber drivers too benefit from the green energy plan.

Khosrowshahi called this “the first of its kind for Uber around the world”.

The talk about going green especially in the motoring industry is speedily gaining momentum. It has higher level for innovation with virtually all major car manufacturers introducing cars that respond to this demand. Observably, consumers have pushed this need as they become more alert and concerned about environmental degradation. It is therefore not surprising that Uber has strongly come out to be part of this new development.

In the US, Uber is at an advanced stage in its development of autonomous cars which is expected to reduce the cost of its operations significantly. This forward-thinking and incredibly imaginative look at possibilities will do the company a lot of good.

“Over time,” Says the CEO, “it’s our goal to help people replace their car with their phone by offering a range of mobility options – whether cars, bikes, scooters or public transport – all in the Uber app.”

In the meantime, any support granted in going green is highly welcome and Uber aims at being an active participant.
