Why Italian Presidents Love The Maserati Quattroporte

Over forty years and counting

You cannot write the history of American presidents and leave out the official limousines built by Cadillac. That history has only a couple of times been dented but largely remains uninterrupted.

When you cross over to romantic Italy, this same honor has been held by the Maserati, and specifically the Maserati Quattroporte brand.

The Maserati even called a party in celebration of this high-rated achievement in the last forty years. Italy’s president is mainly ceremonial as opposed to the role of the Prime Minister who actively participates in political engagements.

Of the Maseratis that have served Italy’s presidents, the one-ff Maserati Quattroporte delivered in 1983 deserves special mention. This is simply because it was the first armored presidential car for the Italian president.

A unique feature of this car was a large ashtray with a pipe holder between the rear seats, specially ordered by the President himself. For this Maserati had to modify the rear bench to accommodate it. Maserati further explains that “The car also featured a bar cabinet, a telephone system, and an intercom for communication with people outside the car.”

This plausible of tradition by Maserati has been kept to date, with Italy’s heads of state picking on the Quattroportes as is with President Sergio Mattarella. The modern has an outstanding Blu Istituzionale color created specifically for the president’s sedan. The interior is laced full-grain Pieno Fiore leather and piano black wood.

It’s just as beautiful.
