Anyone who drives a Honda Prologue or an Acura ZDX can now tap into the massive Supercharger network of Tesla. With a new NACS-to-CCS adapter, drivers can get access to 23,500+ Tesla chargers across the U.S. via the Tesla app. The goal behind the Honda-Tesla collaboration is to make long trips a lot easier for the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX drivers.
The adapter functions by converting the current CCS1 fast‑charging port into Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS). It costs $225, and electric SUV owners can buy it at Honda or Acura dealerships. One can also purchase it through Honda’s shared DreamShop site. Unlike third‑party adapters, this official adapter has Honda’s stamp of approval.
After getting the adapter, both electric SUV owners can locate Superchargers through built‑in Google Maps software in the vehicles. Currently, the Tesla application will be needed to connect and pay. Honda claims it has been making its own application so customers can use plug-and-charge capabilities.
Other top automobile brands like Ford, Mercedes‑Benz, GM, Hyundai, Volvo, and BMW have also started using the Tesla NACS standard to acquire EV charging access. There is a long list of CSS-type fast chargers available across the United States, but Tesla’s Supercharger network is the largest. With the new Honda-approved adapter, the Acura ZDX and Honda Prologue can get access to 23,500+ Tesla chargers that support the NACS plug.
