The Hum Rider Smartly Walks Over Other Cars

If Only It Was Meant For Everyday Use

We are living in very interesting times. Great ideas, some extremely fancy and some just brought from the future.

There is a new way to beat traffic: riding over other cars with this modified Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, which has been elevated so that using its long legs, it is now able to drive over other cars with ease. Code named the Hum Rider, it is capable of raising five feet in the air and eight feet wide, allowing it to drive over the top of other road vehicles.

It will however, not be produced for mass consumption and this particular car was meant for an advert. Nonetheless, it reminds us of a similar idea floated in 2016 and one that could see commuter buses use the same concept.

According to the Verizon, the Hum Rider is a normal car in every way, but the whole idea of building it is just to promote the Hum, an aftermarket connected car gadget. Features such as geofencing and speed alerts are blended into the app which, as Verizon notes is being targeted as a solution for parents worried about their teenagers.

The Hum Rider carries 300 feet of hydraulic lines fitted in the car that power the steering, brake, and locomotion. The car is powered by a single gas-powered Honda generator, which channels electricity to the pumps that release 900 pounds of the pressure to kick-start the hydraulic pumps.

Verizon says the weight of the car is somewhere around 8,500 pounds, twice the weight of a standard Jeep Grand Cherokee. Does’t this seem like an idea that carries a solution to the challenging traffic jam problem? It sure does.
