It’s Grown In Size To Add Comfort To City Rides And Long Distances

One of the most common characteristics of sedans and wagons nowadays is that they are growing in size. We’ve said this before that automakers are making a certain emphasis on shifting their cars a size up.

This growth bug has caught up with the Volvo, which, anyway has been sizing up its vehicles over the last few decades. In hindsight, the outgoing V60 Cross Country had trouble competing with SUVs and even with other lifted-wagon-style cars, reportedly due to its rather cramped back seat and relatively small trunk.

Volvo must have learned this and decided to do something about it; 2019 version is larger, roomier and has that classy feeling of the cars it is expected to compete with. Its exterior look has been enhanced with a black cladding that lies over the bumper, extends around the front wheel arches, the side sills, and spills over toward the back, covering the rear wheel arches as well.

Space has been appropriately adjusted with the trunk now absorbing 529 liters (18.7 cubic feet) with the rear seat unfolded. This goes up to 1,441 liters (50.9 cubic feet) when the seats are folded flat. This adds to the overall space in the cabin and which results from an overall gain in the V60 Cross Country’s length and height.

There are a number of engine models expected to drive the V60 Cross Country including the D5, T5, and T6 models. The automaker says that the British market will get the D4 engine at launch. On average, whichever engine this Volvo adapts, the T5 model should give it 254 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, while the T6 should, which is both turbocharged and supercharged produces 360 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. There could also be the entry-level T4, rated at 190 horsepower and 260 pound-feet.

This is a wagon curved to compete in a class that is continuously changing. With these new features, it has all the prospects of doing rather well and tilting the matrix.
