Even a $3 million hypercar can end up back at the workshop for a recall, and the Aston Martin Valkyrie just proved it.

Aston Martin filed a formal Safety Recall Report with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration earlier this month, putting the whole thing on the public record. The filing describes a problem that sounds almost too specific to be real, yet according to the company’s own data, it is exactly what happened.

The recall affects just 7 of the 2024 Aston Martin Valkyries sold in the U.S. These cars were equipped with the optional track suspension package. Out of 51 Valkyries sold in the country that year, only a small number were affected. Even so, the recall is significant because only 275 Valkyries were built worldwide, making those 7 cars a notable portion of the ultra-rare production run.

According to the NHTSA filing, the root cause traces back to a seal inside one of the car’s brake master cylinders. Under a very specific and aggressive style of track driving, that seal can deform. Once it does, brake fluid in the affected diagonal circuit stops returning properly to the reservoir when the driver lifts off the pedal. With nowhere for that pressure to go, the brakes begin to drag, and heat builds quickly. In the worst-case scenario, that heat can rise high enough to reach the ignition point of the resin used in the carbon fiber rear brake cooling duct, creating a fire risk.

The timeline behind the fix is almost as detailed as the defect itself.

Aston Martin first encountered the issue back in November 2022, when a prototype chassis experienced it during testing. Engineers eventually traced the problem to a deeper compatibility issue, since the Valkyrie’s braking hardware was originally engineered purely for raw mechanical performance rather than for working alongside an Electronic Stability Program and adjustable traction control. That clash between old-school braking hardware and modern electronic systems lay at the heart of the defect.

Aston Martin worked with longtime brake supplier Alcon Components to pin down the root cause, which the company confirmed in February 2025. A revised master cylinder design was followed within a month, and the updated parts began rolling out to the fleet in September 2025.

Early this year, Aston Martin’s Critical Concerns Review Group studied the accumulated data. It passed a recommendation to the company’s internal Recall Committee, which voted in late May 2026 to move ahead with a voluntary safety recall.

For owners, the fix itself is refreshingly simple. Dealers will swap both brake master cylinders for new units with a new seal and piston design that works properly with ESP, at no cost to the customer. The repair takes roughly five hours. Aston Martin will also make the updated parts available to anyone retrofitting the AMR Track Performance Pack down the line.

It is a reminder that even a hypercar built for Formula 1 is not immune to the unglamorous reality of recalls and compatibility issues that affect far more ordinary machines every day.
