Famous Ringbrothers Rebuilt A 1972 AMC Javelin AMX To Make 1,036 HP

This was ahead of its time

When Prestone approached car customizers Mike and Jim Ring (aka the Ringbrothers) to build a special car to celebrate the antifreeze company’s 90th anniversary, they immediately decided to use the opportunity to give a 1972 Javelin AMX the makeover of a lifetime. Their approach not only brought about an unbeatable product but moved the car to a class of their own.

They moved the front axle six inches forward to balance out the stock car’s notorious overbite, then fabricated new panels out of carbon fiber to make it look factory-spec, rebuilt the drivetrain for 1,036 horsepower—or upwards of 1,500 horsepower on high boost.

It is appropriately named Defiant and has all the characteristics of a car that can go to any lengths to impress. A Bowler automatic transmission backs the high-powered engine and a sturdy QA1 Carbon Fiber driveshaft transfers power to the wheels.

Royal Purple engine and transmission oil assure the high-powered motor will be kept running smoothly, while a new Dodge Hellcat radiator and fan assembly ensures perfect running temperatures when filled with Prestone Antifreeze. Other engine highlights include a Holley Dominator fuel management system and wiring harness from Painless Wiring.

The Javelin’s growl is audible via custom stainless steel Flowmaster headers and exhaust. On the inside, you find features such as the Kicker sound system, Classic Instruments gauges, a Vintage Air Gen IV Magnum Evap Kit and custom seats by Upholstery Unlimited.

“Defiant!” rolls on a set of HRE Performance Wheels sized at 20×11 in the front and 20×13 in the rear, all wrapped in Michelin tires sized 285/30/20 up front and 335/30/20 outback. This car does much more than to impress and prove a point. In the end, it comes out as a seriously capable car.
