Old meets new in the Lexus GX 460

The Lexus GX 460 is a significantly huge car. It takes its place between the friendly RX 350 midsize crossover and the humongous full-size LX 570.

But there is a little problem: the GX 460 hasn’t seen a redesign in an entire decade. Lexus wants to fix this through several essential updates for 2020. This will mean the car will retain its old school old-school utility while riding like a fresh newcomer.

There is only one engine available for this car and that is a 4.6-liter V-8 that produces 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel-drive system, making this Lexus a formidable offroad.

Lexus further gifts this car the Lexus’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System. This setup is tailored to make traction smooth during off-road adventures. With this, the GX is able to pick from 60 mph in 7.0 seconds.

This is an off-roader whose last complete full redesign dates back to 2010 but still manages to do things in a relatively modern tone. In the find, we find a combination of wood and leather, coming out just as good as deluxe.

Front-row passengers get sufficiently pleasant accommodations, although things are not as rosy in the second and third rows. The GX takes pride in a relatively calm cabin as the outside noise is filtered.

As you’d expect, cargo space is way more than most people will need. There are 11.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row which increases to 46.7 cubic feet behind the second. When both the second and third rows are folded, you get a massive 64.7 cubic feet.

Lexus portrays great strengths in building cars that leave good memories of its uses. The Lexus GX 460 is no exception.
